Old Concepts Revised and New Solutions Derived in Plastic Surgery: Perforator Flap Innovations for Upper and Lower Limb Salvage: A Translational Approach from Anatomy to Clinical Practice

The idea behind this research project is to develop new local perforator flaps on the upper and lower extremities, specifically for hand surgery and periprosthetic knee surgery. Cadaver studies were first conducted as a starting point to see whether sufficient arterial blood supply to the flaps to be developed was even possible. After anatomical verification, the corresponding flap design was adapted in the planning stage and these novel flaps were finally introduced into clinical practice.
