Onderweg naar morgen: Gedachten over communicatie in een complexe wereld

Net als alle andere levende wezens zijn wij, mensen,  volledig afhankelijk van de natuur om ons heen. We kunnen simpelweg  niet zonder. De natuur en het milieu staan echter onder hoge druk. Dat heeft alles te maken met de systemen die wij met elkaar hebben opgetuigd. Systemen die steeds complexer worden en tegelijkertijd de transitie naar een duurzame samenleving in de weg staan. In deze afscheidsrede wordt onderzocht hoe taal en communicatie kunnen bijdragen aan de realisering van een empathische samenleving waarin zorg voor elkaar en voor de natuur het uitgangspunt is.

Like all other living creatures, we humans are totally dependent on the natural world around us. We simply cannot do without it. However, nature and the environment are under severe pressure. This is because of the systems we have set up. Systems that are becoming increasingly complex and at the same time hinder the transition to a sustainable society. In this farewell speech, it will be explored how language and communication can contribute to the realisation of an empathetic society in which care for each other and for nature is the key principle.
