A Closer Look at the Govenance of Academic Medical Centres: An Elephant by the Tail

Academic medical centres are considered to be among the most complex organisations in the world.This complexity creates organisational and managerial challenges that make it difficult for these organisations to adapt to changing circumstances and ultimately (negatively) affect their speed of action and effectiveness. This dissertation provides more insight into the organisation and governance of European academic medical centres in general, and those in the Netherlands in particular.
