The road towards implementation of biologic dose reduction in psoriasis care
Keywords:
Psoriasis, Biologics, Dose reductionSynopsis
Psoriasis is a chronic inflammatory skin disease. Biologics are available for people living with severe psoriasis. Previous research indicated that reducing the dosage of these biologics is possible without losing good treatment effects. This thesis further investigated the implementation of biologic dose reduction. We found that patients are concerned about psoriasis worsening due to dose reduction. Returning to the standard dose in case of disease worsening is an important option for patients. Most patients who returned to the standard dose achieved good treatment effects again. Additionally, this thesis demonstrated that healthcare providers already applied dose reduction but in varied ways. Time constraints hindered the implementation of dose reduction. Protocols, educational resources for healthcare providers, and available staff for patient guidance can aid implementation of dose reduction in daily practice.
